Universal Studios Singapore (USS) recently celebrated its Grand Opening this past March. The park boasts some of the more popular elements from Universal Studios Orlando, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Islands of Adventure. The new Universal theme park also includes never-before seen lands and attractions
Orlando Sentinel occasional correspondent Don has posted a video that he took during the soft opening of the Universal Studios Singapore theme park. It’s fun to see almost-familiar attractions in different settings, from as small as Finnegans to as large as Revenge of the Mummy or Jurassic Park. Take a look:
As you can see in the video, elements at the new park that are shared with Universal Studios Orlando include the Hollywood and New York themed areas, with some merchandise stores and restaurants being recreated. The Mummy attraction is also present at USS, but is placed in an entire land devoted to Ancient Egypt. Shrek 4-D Adventure is a familiar attraction to Orlando residents, but the full-on Far Far Away land is extremely unique for a Universal park. Far Far Away features small rides for the kiddies, as well as Shrek-themed dining and shopping.
Elements at USS from our very own Islands of Adventure include a Jurassic Park themed land called The Lost World, featuring new rides including a river adventure (more of a river rapids ride), a couple small kiddie rides, and Waterworld-themed stunt show (which is also featured at Universal Studios Hollywood.)
Totally new and unique additions to the Universal theme park repertoire include Sci-Fi City and Madagascar. A really interesting roller coaster exists within Sci-Fi City, featuring a Battlestar Galactica theme (cool!). Riders can choose to either ride as Cylons (a suspended roller coaster) or Humans (a seated roller coaster) as they experience intense aerial combat between the two spacecraft raiders. Interestingly enough, this coaster is currently closed and under maintenance – a huge chunk of something apparently flew off one of the cars during test runs, claims rumors on the Screamscape blog. I think the official word is they are experiencing technical difficulties. Madagascar includes kid-rides such as a river boat adventure with the characters from the popular movie.
As you can see, USS is offering a unique spin on some of our Universal favorites and it is definitely interesting to compare and contrast the various theme parks.
