According to the Disney Parks blog, there has been an extremely strong response from guests to the “Give a Day, Get a Day” Program. The program allows guests who perform a day of volunteer service at a participating organization in 2010 to receive a free, one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park. Using previous similar programs, Disney attemtped to prepare for the launch of this program. However, due to the very high number of guests trying to register for volunteer service, periodic slowdowns in the network have been created, making it difficult to complete the registration process.
The Disney Parks Blogger offers an apology: “We apologize for the inconvenience and want to let you know that we’re working to add capacity to the system to provide a better registration experience.”
New volunteer opportunities are being added to the Hands On Network daily, so there will still be plenty of opportunities to “Give a Day.” Disney assures guests that they will not reach the 1 million mark this weekend. To be honest, I’m very surprised they are even remotely close to that mark on only the 2nd day of January. Surprised, yet impressed! Hopefully, all these volunteers will catch the service bug and keep it up – even without the incentive of a free Disney day.
