The “Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief” telethon aired last night, and among the astounding number of volunteers were about 400 Walt Disney World employees. The VoluntEARS staffed phones during the global telethon, aimed at raising money for the earthquake-devastated Haiti.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, Disney VoluntEARS were fielding calls and processing donations real-time from the Disney Reservations Center in Orlando, Florida.
“Offering to help with the “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon is one of many ways The Walt Disney Company and cast members are extending their support to the people of Haiti,” Disney said in a written statement. “The tragedy has struck a chord at Disney as thousands of Walt Disney World cast members have close personal ties to Haiti and are still trying to locate friends or family members in the region.”
Earlier this month, the Walt Disney Co. pledged $100,000 toward rescue and recovery efforts.
“Hope for Haiti Now” will be accepting donations online at www.hopeforhaitinow.org and by phone 877-99-HAITI.
