Epcot Back in Blooms: The 25th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival Returns

Walt Disney World Resort

Some say Florida doesn’t have an official “Spring” season, but I beg to differ.

Spring most definitely begins in Florida when the more-than-30-million blooms come alive at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.

This year is the Festival’s 25th year, and the park again is overflowing with the brightest plants, flowers, trees and topiaries adorning both Future World and World Showcase.

Here are some of the top things you shouldn’t miss at the Festival:

  • Gardens, Gardens and More Gardens: In addition to all the natural flora throughout the park, the Walt Disney World horticulture squad has curated some truly breathtaking gardens for our guests this year. New garden destinations this year include “The How-To Garden” and “The Imagination Play Garden” which are perfect for adults and kids to enjoy together. Returning favorites include “The Goodness Garden Butterfly House” and “The Water Wise Garden,” which showcase environmental responsibility as well as just being fun!
  • Outdoor Kitchens: What would an Epcot Festival be without fun food and drinks? 15 Outdoor Kitchens this year grace World Showcase, with the newest being “The Honey Bee-Stro,” which features Roasted Cauliflower with Buckwheat Honey Carrot Purée; Honey Tandoori Chicken Flatbread with White Cheddar Cheese; and Local Wildflower Honey-Mascarpone Cheesecake with Orange Blossom Honey Ice Cream garnished with Fennel Pollen Meringue Kisses. These dishes were created to showcase multiple honey varietals in creative and exciting ways. Returning Outdoor Kitchen favorites include “The Berry Basket” (featuring a lamb chop with quinoa salad and blackberry gastrique) and “THE SMOKEHOUSE: Barbecue and Brew” (featuring a pulled-pork slider and warm chocolate cake with Bourbon-salted caramel sauce and spiced pecans). YUM!
  • Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration: One of the beloved characters from Disney animated short cartoons, Spike the honeybee, has been “pollen-nating” throughout the Festival. In this springtime scavenger hunt, gardeners of all ages can follow Spike on his pollination trail around World Showcase, where he will “bee” busy collecting nectar and pollinating gardens at Epcot. To get started, purchase your map and stickers at Port of Entry. Available while supplies last.
  • Garden Rocks Concert Series: Each Friday through Monday of the Festival (what we like to call a “Disney Weekend”), favorite artists from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s will rock out at the America Gardens Theatre. Night Ranger kicks off the series March 2-5, and Rick Springfield, Survivor and Lonestar are just some of the popular rock and rollers in the lineup. Each night, there will be three performances – 5:30, 6:45 and 8 p.m. – and guests can pair a wonderful meal at several of our Epcot restaurants with reserved concert seating in a nice package. Click here for Garden Rocks dining package availability or call 407-WDW-DINE.
  • Character Topiaries: Locations throughout the park feature some of the most beloved Disney and Disney•Pixar characters including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and The Tramp and Buzz Lightyear.
  • Merchandise: Guests will find a wealth of hats, T-shirts, mugs and other fun Festival merchandise throughout Future World and World Showcase. I can’t resist anything with Figment on it; so you KNOW I’ll be buying some.
  • Tours: One of the great ways to get the “inside track” on the Festival or the latest in gardening techniques is to take one of the tours offered during the Festival. There are tours of The Land pavilion greenhouses and the “Gardens of the World – Spring Edition.” There is also the daily Royal Tea Garden Tour at the United Kingdom pavilion that includes a tea tasting. Guests can find out more about the tours here or call 407-WDW-TOUR.

If you’re coming out to this year’s festival, plan on more than one day to see, smell, hear, touch and taste everything. You surely can’t do it all in one!

Happy gardening!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s “Rivers of Light” Show to be Park’s Greatest Show of all Time

If you have ever been to a theme park, there always seems to be one common thread that they all share and that is a epic show of some kind. Whether it be a fireworks finale, courtyard dance off or a parade, shows seem to be a big hit among travelers of all ages. The newest addition to this line-up is Disney’s Animal Kingdom with their Rivers of Light show. It will be on display over by the Mt. Everest rollercoaster and visible from the Asia area of the park and over to the Finding Nemo show area on the lake.

Currently, if you go over to the Animal Kingdom there is a lot of construction going on. The work being done on the new Rivers of Light show seem to be almost done with the exception of a few walls put up to keep prying eyes out. The lake is surrounded by special effects areas with high-tech lighting surrounding the area. Projectors will be shown on a water screen and guests will be able to view scenes of animal spirits as two tour guides tell the tales of what’s to come. Lanterns will dance on the lagoon as your story hosts are taken out into the lagoon.

Probably the coolest thing will be that he parks iconic centerpiece, The Tree of Life will be the backdrop of the show. It will be illuminated by fireflies and lights making it a truly beautiful addition to the new show. Disney had to reach out to design talents like master puppet designer Michael Curry, composer Mark Mancina and the filmmakers at Disneynature. It will truly be a much needed addition to the park as there is no night time entertainment and guests have been leaving the park fairly early since Animal Kingdom was introduced to the Disney family.

The new show should be ready for guests viewing pleasure within the next few months and we will be here keeping you updated. If you are planning a family vacation and need assistance with purchasing you discount Animal Kingdom tickets, please call our office at 1-877-406-4836 or visit us on the web at http://www.officialticketcenter.com/disney-tickets.aspx today!

Pardon the Pixie Dust While Visiting Islands of Adventure

As you may know by now, Universal Studios in Orlando has a sister park called Islands of Adventure. It sits about 100 yards away from Universal Studios and is the home of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. As you know, all theme parks need a little down time to get things fixed and a new coat of paint. This is exactly what’s happening at Islands of Adventure at the moment. Not to be alarmed, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is up and running! They would be out of their minds if they closed this down, but not to worry Harry Potter fans, all is well in the wizard world.

The biggest closure has to be the Hulk Roller Coaster. This was dismantled and removed for refurbishment and is set to be back terrifying travelers by the first part of spring. This was a huge letdown for me last weekend as this is my favorite ride in Islands of Adventure! I try to start my day on this adrenaline inducing ride as it will set my energy level for the remainder of the day. Dr. Doom’s was still dropping guests and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man was whisking guests through the streets of New York in 3-D. Many guests were wandering around wondering what to do as Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls was out of commission as well as Popeye’s Bilge Rat Barges was down for the count too!

It would seem that all of the water rides were not operational either for repair reasons or for the fact that it was 50 degrees outside on the day I went. Dudley Do Right’s had a wall up around it, so I would guess that they were working on it rather than it being closed for the weather. The next sight on the way around the park was the walls surrounding the all new Skull Island: Reign of Kong attraction that is set to open in the summer of 2016. This will definitely be another star attraction to Universal’s arsenal and is sure to have travelers raving about it once it opens! The next big bummer of the day had to be Jurassic Park! It was running but no one was riding as it was freezing outside. Sure, there were a few not so smart souls who decided to ride this get soaked water ride and were not so happy afterwards trying to dry off in the 50 degree air with the rest of the day in front of them. Not me!

For the most part the rest of the park was still operational and Dr, Seuss’s was busy entertaining children as well as adults who wanted to take a ride with The Cat and the Hat. The park seemed to be busy, but I really don’t think people got their money’s worth on this day as many of the rides were either shut down for refurbishment or were to cold to ride at all. It was still a very beautiful adventure, but one that would have been better if the weather had been 25 degrees warmer.

On a good note, we did save quite a bit of money by purchasing our tickets through a discount tickets provider, “The Official Ticket Center” located over in Kissimmee and were able to buy discounted Disney tickets as well as discounted Universal Studios tickets. Staying Cool At A Orlando Theme Park Near You

Winter time in Florida is almost here and the temperatures are rising at the theme parks to prove it. The biggest issue a traveler has when visiting the parks during the hot and humid times is their stamina and sweating to death. There are many issues that will make or break a person during their vacation here and keeping cool is at the top of that list! So many times you hear of travelers coming to the Orlando area and visiting the parks wearing as little as possible. You would think that showing up to the Magic Kingdom or Universal Studios wearing almost nothing in order to stay cool would be the best idea but time and time again this proves to be a very bad idea!

First off I would like to tell you that I used to work at Disney World for 8 years and I have seen it all. The tourist that are there on their first day and hitting the parks in the morning and then showing up at the end of that day looking like a fried lobster. The look on their faces resembling a fresh fried piece of red  leather and heat waves rolling up their whole body! Not fun and surely not feeling good! I have seen people get physically ill from too much sun to the point of needing medical attention. This is not how to stay cool folks. People from Europe are the worst when visiting our theme parks and get burned up in the first few day.

Staying cool in Florida is not that hard and requires just a few simple things. The biggest thing one must do is lather up with the sun screen! Head to toe and applying throughout the day. No exceptions. Next wear a long sleeve shirt that you won’t mind getting wet in. Ladies might want to wear a undershirt for this! Throughout the day when you start getting hot, pour a cup of water all over your shirt! This will cool your body core down and make you feel like you just jumped in a nice cold pool. Next bring a big plastic water bottle that you can refill at the parks for free. Drinking water will also bring your core body temperature down considerably. This will also save you money rather than buying water in the parks.

The biggest and best way to cool down would have to be airconditioning! Get your shirt wet and go stand or sit on one of the many areas inside at the theme parks. If you can’t find on ask! A cast member will tell you the best areas to go take a break at. I try to always take two pairs of cloths with me when I go to the parks, one for getting wet at the parks in and one for the end of the evening. This will make your trip home not a funky one! Wear a big hat and wear cool towel to wear around your neck. There are many on the market that state they are a cooling towel and they do work. Remember to pace yourself and take those breaks! It’s a vacation, not a race.

Theme Parks, Screaming Parents and Disfunction Oh My!

Have you ever been on vacation and witnessed a situation that made you cringe or better yet made you want to rethink your choice of destination? I can’t count how many times I have been at a theme park in Orlando and witnessed a parent yelling at a tired child or worse seen grown adults getting into fights over the dumbest things. The other day I was waiting for the Ferry Boat to take me and my little princess back to the parking lot and Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park and a older man walked right up next to us and started clipping his nasty nails within feet of my little girl. When I said excuse me sir, he just looked at me and went right back to making his nasty little pile of fingernail clippings. When he was done, he just kicked them around and spread them for the people to walk through.

Nastyness is everywhere and I guess it is all in how you deal with it. You may remember not to long ago, two women at one of the other Disney parks got into a fistacuf over someone getting to close in line and then started beating the crap out of one another with umbrellas all while children looked on. Such an ugly site for anyone to witness but those little souls were probably scared for life after seeing the ugly side of adults at such a magical place. I have to admit that there have been times that I have lost my cool, but was smart enough to take a deep breath and walk away, but all to often this is not the case. When you mix long days with heat and add a little beer to the mix, things are going to get a little testy from time to time.

Last week I was at Universal Studios Orlando and witnessed a man yelling at the top of his lungs at his little boy for not moving in the right direction for dads perfect vacation photo. I think he knew he was losing it when everyone around him just liked at him with shame, but some people just do give a damn about how they are acting or how they look doing it! When you start mixing long hot days with screaming kids and throw in a beer or two, things are going to get a little ugly. Some of the worst times that I have been at a theme park and just saw absolute chaos had to be at Epcot during their International Wine & Food Festival. Not a place for non-drinking people who do not like to see loud obnoxious people have a good time.

If you are a traveler who wishes to visit during the least stressful time, I recommend going during time when kids are in school and the season is cool with no 100 degree days. The hottest times seem to be the most stressful times as many travelers are not used to our hot steamy Florida days. It can suck the life right out of someone, leaving them stressed and dehydrated. This is not good if you are supposed to be taking of kids or elderly people. Just remember to stay cool, come during the right time and try to stay away from drink festivals if traveling with small children. Big Names Are Dropping The Skinny On Disney’s New Additions

If you have been living under a rock for the past year, you may have missed all the buzz about a little known movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It seems that this movie has broke all box office records and is even getting its own space at Disneyland in California and even in Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. Walt Disney World already has a small area dedicated to Star Wars but the latest additions will make this a huge land into itself.

Disney has been the waiting until the new movie release to make it’s big announcement about the addition, but who was going to make it was a secret until now. The only person I think who had the clout and also had 2 areas already at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was non other than Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford. Harrison already has the famous Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular show at the Studios and in the current Star Wars area of the park, so he will be making the big announcement about the newest addition.

He will be giving the latest conceptual ideas that Disney’s imagineers have come up with for the new Star Wars Land expansion. As of now, some of the ideas have been that you will be fully immersed in different worlds that the movie has taken place in as well as fan memorabilia to see that was in the actual movies. Think the Great Movie Ride meets Star Wars or even the Backlot Tour. All of this and more will be revealed to fans on Sunday’s showing of “The Wonderful World of Disney”, February 21st at 8-10 pm ET/PT on ABC.

Just think, you might be able to climb aboard the actual Millenium Falcon or fly with Luke Skywalker on a mission to destroy the Death Star. Disney’s Hollywood Studios already has a month that celebrates Star Wars and has special guests every weekend for 5 weeks during May and June. The new expansion is said to be 14 acres and all Star Wars. Just to put that in context, 14 acres is just as big as 10 football fields, so get your walking shoes ready! The current size of the Hollywood Studios Star Wars land is just the ride they have now, the small gift shop and the stage where you can see you favourite characters perform. It was time for more and it couldn’t have come sooner.

If you are planning a trip to Orlando and want to check out the latest progress, call us toll free to set up your discount Hollywood Studios tickets or any of our discount Disney tickets today. A guest service representative is standing by to book your trip to a galaxy far, far away!

Disney Is On A Roll At Hollywood Studios With Two New Lands

Have you ever been to Disney’s Hollywood Studios? You might remember it as Disney MGM Studios but a lot has changed since the renaming of their iconic theme park. The biggest and latest change probably was the removal of the landmark centerpiece, Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat that greeted guests when entering the park. Lately the big buzz at Hollywood Studios has been the sound of jackhammers and the unpleasant sight of scaffolding that is being used to work on a few of their current projects.

The biggest and most talked about addition to the park has to be the Star Wars Lands and truthfully I can’t wait for this one! It will allow fans to walk through this galaxy far, far away and meet their heroes in real life. Taking up a staggering 14 acres, this new land is sure to please the most diehard fans! The next biggest attraction on the drawing board is the not so much talked about Toy Story Land. The coolest thing that I have heard is that you will be shrunk down to the size of one of Andy’s toys and will be able to go out and explore Andy’s backyard.

From what I have heard, they will be building on to that area where it is now and have 2 new rides created after the little green aliens from Pizza Planet and a new family friendly roller coaster showcasing Slinky Dog as the theme of the ride. I really think that this is a good move on Disney’s part and it is a much needed injection in a pretty boring theme park that was being labeled a half day theme park. Let’s just hope that they can pull off this pretty huge task without putting the guests out to much. Construction at a theme park can suck and really put a damper on one’s vacation!

If you are planning a trip to Orlando, Florida and plan on visiting to any of the Disney theme parks, please consult with any of our vacation planners to discuss what your options are on our discount Disney tickets or Hollywood Studios tickets. Call our office toll free at 1-877-406-4836 today.
