Disney to Acquire Marvel Entertainment

In late August, Orlando tourists and residents were surprised to hear the breaking news that The Walt Disney Company is buying Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock. Under the deal, which is expected to close by the end of the year, Disney will acquire the rights to 5,000 Marvel characters. The acquisition will undoubtedly impact two of the major Orlando area attractions, Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Studios Resort. Continue reading

In a press statement released yesterday, Universal Orlando Resort and Warner Bros. Consumer products revealed “first ever details about the incredible scope of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.” Actor Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise, was on hand in Orlando for the big reveal, stating “Universal has given me the great honor in revealing to the world that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening it’s gates Spring 2010.” Continue reading

Changes in Epcot’s Candlelight Processional lineup include Angela Bassett, Courtney Vance
Actors Angela Bassett and Courtney Vance have joined the lineup of narrators for Candlelight Processional, the part of Epcot’s holiday offerings. The couple, who have been married since 1997, will read during the performances of Dec. 28-30, according to www.disneyworld.com. Bassett is lending her voice to the upcoming Walt Disney Pictures animated project, The Princess and the Frog, currently set to be released Dec. 25, 2009. Continue reading
