Walt Disney World – Give A Day, Get A Disney Day Promotion Reaches Goal

Walt Disney World announced on Tuesday that they would be ending the ‘Give a Day, Get a Free Disney Day’ promotion because they have reached their goal of 1 million volunteers.  Just 10 weeks after Disney launched the promotion, 1 million individuals have either completed volunteer service or registered to volunteer with one of the participating organizations. This past weekend, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida hosted the Disney’s Princess Half-Marathon.  The event included a Fit for a Princess Expo on Friday, a Royal Family 5k and Kids Races on Saturday, and the Half-Marathon on Sunday.  Walt Disney World hosts a series of atheltic and endurance events all year, with runners and princesses traveling from all over the world to participate! According to the Disney Parks Blog, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida has finally broken ground on their much anticipated Fantasyland expansion at Magic Kingdom.  New images have been released of a 1/4 inch dimensional model, showcasing the four Disney Classic-inspired neighborhoods that guests will be able to explore, including interactive storybook adventures with some of our favorite princesses! Walt Disney World is about to embark on a sweeping facelift for the Fantasyland section of the Magic Kingdom, in what the resort calls the biggest overhaul in the theme park’s 38-year history.

Plans revealed Saturday call for adding a lavish ride based on The Little Mermaid, expanding a popular Dumbo children’s attraction, new interactive areas featuring some of Disney’s best-known princesses, and more. Read more »

On January 21st, Merlin Entertainment announced that Legoland Florida, the world’s largest Legoland, will be opening in late 2011 on the former site of Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, Florida.  Merlin Entertainment is currently owned by The Blackstone Group, who you may recall, now owns Sea World Parks and Entertainment, as well as holds a 50% stake in Universal Studios Orlando.  For more information on that merger, click here.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the park is expected to have between 40 and 50 attractions, including some of Lego’s signature attractions.  Lego is even rumored to be keeping some of the more popular Cypress Gardens’ attributes. Read more »
