Sea World Orlando's Makahiki Luau Dinner Show

There’s a little gem inside Sea World Orlando that many travelers to the Orlando theme parks are unaware of and no it’s not Shamu. The gem that I speak of is a little dinner show production that is put on nightly inside Sea World Orlando’s Sea Fire Grill called, The Makahiki Luau Dinner Show. Many people get the SeaWorld luau confused with Disney’s luau dinner show held over at the Polynesian Resort on the Seven Seas Lagoon at the Walt Disney World Resort, but make no mistake, they are both very different and the cost of Disney’s is way to expensive for the same style of show. Both have the traditional luau dancers and food, but the Makahiki Luau is held indoors to where the luau at Disney is outside. The food quality at the Makahiki Luau is absolutely phenomenal and the servings are never ending. Every time that we take family or friends here we are greeted with a complimentary drink and our lei. Walking along Sea World’s beautiful and fragrant pathway, we are greeted by the sounds of Hawaii being performed by traditionally dressed musicians. When inside, dancers and performers get you in the mood by playing the drums and the island girls dance the dances that have been handed down for generations to the amusement of their visitors. After everyone has arrived, the island chief greets everyone with a traditional welcome and everyone is escorted into the great hall. This is a very private and personal show as the seating capacity is only about 300 to 400 people at most, so every table is a great table and you feel like you are at a very private performance. The action at the Makahiki Luau starts right off as all of the lights go out and then the room is bathed in the glow of the fire that is being spun by the male dancers who come running out to the beat of rhythmic drums that are pounding thru the building. This sets the mood right off the start. The Makahiki Luau is in essence a Thanks Giving of sorts, celebration that incorporates the traditions of the Polynesian culture when giving thanks to visiting guests. The hula dancers show the stories of their ancestors and the chief explains what they are saying, giving the evening a very romantic vibe if you wanting to take your special person out for an exciting night out. This dinner show is also great for the family as well. At about the mid way point of the dinner show, volunteers are brought up on stage to learn how to dance and how to play the drums. The Makahiki Luau dinner show is a great addition to all of the other Orlando dinner shows and it will defiantly be here in Orlando for many years to come.
