Hauntingly Happy Fun Is Happening at The Magic Kingdom

The Official Ticket Center Inc. ~ If the headless horseman is romping down Main Street, U.S.A. aboard his steed, ghostly apparitions are flitting among the buildings of Magic Kingdom, Cinderella Castle is draped in eerie hues and the night sky is being painted with bursts of orange and green fireworks, it can only mean one thing: Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is back!
Following Magic Kingdom closing on select autumn evenings between Sept. 14 and Nov. 1, the park reopens for this special-ticket event featuring trick-or-treating throughout the park, “Happy HalloWishes” fireworks spectacular, “Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade” – including Disney characters and the stars of the Haunted Mansion attraction – and the opportunity to experience popular attractions including, of course, The Haunted Mansion.

Space Shuttle Discovery Set for Lift Off!

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Space shuttle Atlantis has been cleared for liftoff.

Mission managers on Wednesday gave the go-ahead for the countdown to proceed toward Friday afternoon’s planned launch. It will be the 32nd and final flight for Atlantis.

Everything is looking good for an on-time launch at 2:20 p.m. Managers are tracking no technical troubles, and forecasters say there’s a 70 percent chance the weather will cooperate.

Atlantis will carry up spare parts for the International Space Station.

Only two shuttle missions remain after this one. NASA is retiring its three shuttles to focus on new technologies and rockets that could one day get astronauts to asteroids and Mars.

Magic Kingdom is perfect for the little ones!

Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida offers a really cool feature on their website – the Mom’s Panel.  Guests from all over the world submit various question, and one of the Moms answer them!  One of the questions:  Which Disney Theme Park is the best for toddlers and infants?  All four parks feature elements and attractions that are great and fun for kids 5 and under (ask us about the Kids 5 and Under Pamphlet!), but for Mom Jennifer W. from Georgia, the best bet is Magic Kingdom.

Mickey’s Toontown Fair offers a ton of playful fun with Donald’s Boat, and Mickey and Minnie’s Country Homes.  Tomorrowland features Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and the Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor.  Be sure to also check out the Country Bear Jamboree at Frontierland and The Magic Carpets of Aladdin at Adventureland.  Finally, a family favorite that takes you and your family all around the park is the Walt Disney World Railroad!

The best spot to meet some of your favorite princesses and fairies is at the Toontown Hall of Fame Tent and meet Mickey Mouse at the Judge’s Tent in Mickey’s Toontown Fair.  Meet and take photos with the Little Mermaid at Ariel’s Grotto and enjoy Storytime with Belle at Fairytale Garden, both at Fantasyland.

Helpful Tips and Hints

Bring or rent a stroller – your little tyke will have a hard time walking through the massively sprawling park, and you certainly don’t want to get stuck carrying them around all day.  You can rent a stroller for your entire length of stay, so all you have to do is present your receipt and be on your way!

While most children will be uber excited to finally meet the famous Mickey Mouse, other smaller children may actually be frightened of the various characters.  Don’t force the issue – the last thing you want is a tantrum at the happiest place on Earth.  There’s always next year. 

Be aware of height restrictions.  You don’t want your little guy or gal getting all psyched to ride Space Mountain, and then realize they are no where close to the minimum height requirement.  Do your research and get them excited about the rides they *will* be able to go on.

Long Lines + Toddlers = Tantrums.  Take advantage of the FASTPASS option, which is included on every ticket.  Even some of the smaller rides like Peter Pan and Winne the Pooh can have gigantic wait lines, especially during the summer season.  First thing in the morning, head to a popular attraction, and insert each of your tickets into the FASTPASS machine.  You will each receive a FASTPASS ticket, telling you a time to return to the attraction, at which point, you can go in the much shorter wait line.  The FASTPASS will also tell you the next time you can use it.  So, while they limit its use and spread it out throughout your day, its Free!  And if you plan around it well, you’ll alleviate a lot of wasted time.

As we reported last month, work has begun on the Fantasyland expansion taking place at Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.  Visitors to Disney will definitely want to take note of these important updates, courtesy of the Disney Parks Blog.

Beginning April 12, Ariel’s Grotto (pictured above), Scuttle’s Landing snack location and Pooh’s Playful Spot will be closing. You’ll still be able to find several of your favorite Disney Characters in some other locations and continue to experience other favorite Fantasyland attractions –- in their normal locations. Ariel will continue to be seen in the Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade and SpectroMagic Parade at Magic Kingdom Park as well as at the Voyage of The Little Mermaid attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Ariel will have a new grotto greeting location and ride-through attraction called Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid as part of the Fantasyland expansion scheduled for 2013.

Fantasmic Show at Hollywood Studios

With peak season fast approaching, the Walt Disney World theme parks here in Orlando, Florida will be offering more of their amazing visual displays at more regular intervals.  The parks offer various opportunities for guests to enjoy interactive parades, entertaining shows, and awe-inspiring fireworks – all of which are included with general park admission and with your purchase of Discount Disney Tickets.

Magic Kingdom

SpectroMagic Parade at Magic Kingdom

Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade features a collection of classic Disney moments to delight guests of all ages. Music, floats and many favorite Disney Characters make up this joyful procession down Main Street U.S.A.

This parade is pretty much on the schedule every day, with at least one showing in the afternoon at 3:00 pm.  During peak season, they’ll usually do an earlier route around noon.

SpectroMagic Parade is a treat for all ages, featuring a host of Disney Characters that light up the night. This shining procession makes its way through the park only on special nights.

During the slow season, MK will do the parade every other day or so, usually at 9:00 pm.  During peak season, they’ll add a second route around 11:00 pm.

Wishes Fireworks – Make a wish on a star as the nighttime sky comes to life in a musical fireworks spectacular that is uniquely Disney. Guests of all ages will marvel at the dazzling array of never-before-seen fireworks and pyrotechnic effects created specifically for this amazing show.

Wishes is shown pretty much every single night at Magic Kingdom, especially during peak season.  The fireworks will usually go off right at park close.

Animal Kingdom

Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade at Animal Kingdom

Mickey’s Jammin’ Jungle Parade features popular Disney Characters as they pay tribute to the wild spirit of their animal friends in a 15-minute, high-energy, afternoon procession that loops through the various areas—Africa, Discovery Island, Asia, and back to Africa.

This parade is on the schedule pretty much every day, starting at 3:45 pm.

Hollywood Studios

Block Party Bash Parade at Hollywood Studios

Block Party Bash Parade - Starring such familiar faces as Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc, Buzz and Woody from Toy Story, Mr. and Mrs. Incredible from The Incredibles and more, this interactive street spectacular is the perfect treat for everyone in the entire family. Come play, party and dance with your Disney·Pixar friends during the wildest, most interactive parade in Disney history.

The parade is about 35 minutes in length and is featured at Hollywood Studios almost every afternoon at 3:00 pm.

Fantasmic! is a spectacular, 25-minute nigh-time fireworks and water show performed select nights starring Mickey Mouse and a bevy of delightful Disney Characters and features classic Disney music and songs, laser lights and amazing hydrotechnic effects.

Unfortunately, this amazing and highly entertaining show is only performed about once every 2-3 days during off season.  Lucky for us, we’re getting into peak season – this week the show is on every night at both 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm.  Starting next week, they’ll be going back to the once or twice a week schedule, but hopefully not for long, with summer right around the corner.  This is by far my favorite show (it just *might* be my very favorite thing about Disney, in general) and I highly recommend planning your whole Disney vaycay around it.

Epcot

Illuminations at Epcot

Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is a 12-minute fireworks, laser and water show that plays nightly for guests of all ages at the World Showcase area. Take in brilliant effects that represent the history of Earth and its people.

Illuminations is showcased every single night at Epcot and probably is the most well-known and popular entertainment display.  You can see the fireworks from all around World Showcase, and the fireworks go off right as the park closes.  Make sure to grab a spot a good 30-45 minutes before they start.

Visitors to Orlando, Florida this Spring are wondering if the Disney Theme Parks will be doing anything for the Easter holiday next Sunday.    The answer is most definitely YES!  As you can seen in the photo above, posted on the Disney Parks Blog, Magic Kingdom has been celebrating Easter since 1986 with Mr. & Mrs. Easter. 

At Magic Kingdom, Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny will be doing a meet-and-greet in the Tour Guide Garden intermittently from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, March 28 – Sunday, April 4. Also, on Sunday, April 4, there will be a 3 p.m. parade that’ll feature an Easter theme with the Easter Bunny, Daisy and other entertainers.

Additionally, at Epcot on April 4, there will be Easter egg hunts for children ages 3 to 9 every 20 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. at Heritage Garden at the American Adventure Pavilion. There will also be Easter egg relays for children ages 6 – 12 at Future World West Garden every 40 minutes from 10:40 a.m. to 4:40 p.m.

Every winter season, the Disney Water Parks alternate being closed for refurbishment.  Blizzard Beach has been closed since about mid-February, and will reopen its gates on March 21st – much to the delight of Disney fans and Spring Breakers visiting the Orlando attractions.

Blizzard Beach Operating Hours:

March 21-27…….. 10 am – 5pm

March 28-31…….. 10 am – 6 pm. 

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park features one of the world’s tallest and fastest free-falling waterslides, as well as slides and rides for the whole family—like a kid-sized, snow-castle fountain play area with scaled-down versions of the more thrilling attractions.

The story behind Disney’s Blizzard Beach begins with a freak snow storm that blanketed Florida. Within the blink of a snowflake-tipped eye, a ski resort sprang up with slalom courses, toboggan slides and iceberg walkways. Then, just as quickly, the weather shifted back to hot. The whole resort started to melt. What to do?

An enterprising alligator saw an opportunity! Clad in a scarf and hat, this Ice Gator slid down the snow-less ski jump, shouting ‘Yahoooo!’ all the way. With a big splash he landed in a pool of melted snow below the mountain. It was at this moment the slushy, slippery slopes became an exhilarating Water Park with a ski theme.
